The Translation Symposium
Reem-Kayden Center 103  The Annual Translation Symposium @ Bard brings together students and faculty for a series of in-depth, lively discussions of the art and craft of translation and the problem of translatability. Published authors and editors as well as emerging translators speak on panels and come together for a roundtable event to explore translation as a supra-linguistic experience that permeates and shapes modern-day language and thinking. The questions addressed to the symposium are broad and yet allow for a focused, text-based and approach-based analysis. This year, the symposium's keynote speaker Lorin Stein of the Paris Review will address the joys and perils of translation in conversation with Wyatt Mason, Bard writer in residence and the senior fellow of the Hannah Arendt Center.
